First, there was the “Dream Team,” and then came the “Redeem Team.” So it’s only right that the 2024 gold medal-winning United States men’s basketball team checks in with its own nickname.

While Team USA had to overcome a scare or two during the elimination round, LeBron James dubbed the star-studded group “The Avengers” following its 98-87 victory over France. And for the group that rolled out James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Joel Embiid and Devin Booker in the championship game, it seems only fitting.

Team USA brought its most dominant group since the 1992 Dream Team to the 2024 Paris Olympics, and in Saturday’s gold-medal game, its three biggest stars shined the brightest.

Stephen Curry’s red-hot play in the semifinals comeback against Serbia carried over to the final, when he caught fire down the stretch in the fourth quarter to help the Americans pull away from France. Curry finished the night with 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting, with all eight makes coming from beyond the arc.

As for James, he wrapped up the Olympics with averages of 14.2 points, 8.5 assists and 6.8 rebounds while tallying 14 points, 10 assists and six boards against France. Durant tied with Booker as the team’s second-leading scorer in the victory, totaling 15 points with four rebounds and four assists.

While it’s unknown if the trio will suit up again for the 2028 Olympics, Durant has been a mainstay with Team USA. Although all three would be north of 39-years-old, with James at 43 when the Olympics are in Los Angeles, they’ve all shown no signs of slowing down and would unquestionably be welcomed back as the core for a run at another gold medal.
