Louis Rees-Zammit has already been given Kansas City Chiefs blueprint by Tyreek Hill

Louis Rees-Zammit has signed a three-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Super Bowl champions could use the former rugby star to replace Tyreek Hill in their offense

Louis Rees-Zammit could be following in the footsteps of Tyreek Hill at the Kansas City Chiefs. The Super Bowl champions have added Rees-Zammit to their team – and they might already have seen the blueprint to use his speed after the offensive plays they drew up for Hill.

Rees-Zammit has just signed a three-year deal with the Chiefs, which means he’s now officially part of the NFL. His contract includes some guaranteed money and a signing bonus, thanks to the NFL’s International Player Pathway programme.

Rees-Zammit won’t count against the 90-man roster limit during training camp. He’ll probably spend most of his time on the practice squad because there’s an extra spot for international players from 2024.

But the fact that he’s got a multi-year deal suggests that head coach Andy Reid has plans for him – maybe even to replace Hill. Rees-Zammit is likely to be used as a wide receiver-running back hybrid, just like Deebo Samuel at the San Francisco 49ers.

But the Chiefs might have a plan closer to home as they look to make Rees-Zammit part of their offensive team led by two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes. Over 58 games with the Chiefs, Hill and Mahomes teamed up for 331 catches on 502 targets for 4,638 yards and 42 touchdowns.

Hill averaged 14.0 yards per catch and 80 receiving yards per game, making him one of the most feared receivers in the NFL He left Kansas City to become the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, signing a four-year deal worth $120 million with the Miami Dolphins. But it seems like the defending back-to-back Super Bowl champions may have found a new speedster.

Rees-Zammit – also known as ‘Rees Lightning’ – once reached a top speed of 24.2mph during a rugby match. This is faster than the top speed of five-time first-team All-Pro; Hill, who reached a top speed of 23.24mph on a 27-yard kickoff return while playing for the Chiefs in 2016, even though he was wearing full football gear.

With Rees-Zammit on their team, the Chiefs might use his unique speed in a similar way to Hill. This would give Mahomes an immediate option as a deep threat, using his incredible speed to outrun defenders.

Travis Kelce continues to be at his top form, making the Chiefs already have a top-notch offensive weapon covering the middle of the field. If Rashee Rice can build on a promising rookie campaign that yielded 938 yards and seven touchdowns, Kansas City could lay a dynamite offense at the feet – or arm – of the best quarterback in the world.
