The Dallas Mavericks have quietly had one of the best offseasons of the entire NBA this summer, and it all started with them signing Naji Marshall and trading for Quentin Grimes early on. Both of these moves added needed shooting and defense, but their biggest move came after that.

Dallas completed a sign-and-trade for Klay Thompson, and the Mavs finally have their third star to play alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

While all of the previously mentioned moves have the potential to take Dallas to new heights, there is one move from last week that isn’t getting the chatter that it deserves.

Mavericks officially sign Spencer Dinwiddie to one-year contract

Last week, the Mavs reportedly signed Spencer Dinwiddie to a one-year deal, and Mavs PR made the signing official on Saturday.

Last season for the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers, Dinwiddie averaged 10.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 39.2 percent from the field. This was not the most efficient season from Dinwiddie, but he displayed a skill in Los Angeles that fans should be excited about.

Dinwiddie’s defense in Los Angeles was some of the best that we’ve seen in his career, and he is poised to bring that same defense to Dallas.

Fans can’t wait to see Dinwiddie back in Dallas because of all he contributed during his first stint with the team, and he is going to have the chance to play big minutes early on. Dinwiddie was an excellent complementary scorer next to Luka Doncic throughout the 2022 NBA Playoffs, and his ability to take his game to the next level in the clutch was beautiful to watch.

The Mavs needed some more experience to add to their young team, and signing someone like Dinwiddie who already knows Jason Kidd’s system and how the organization operates was a great decision by Nico Harrison and company.

Dinwiddie can mentor the younger guards such as Jaden Hardy while also being a rotation piece who can play on and off the ball, and he can be used as a spot starter when needed as well. His on-court fit next to Doncic is something that didn’t get talked about enough during his first stint with the Mavs, and he’ll be someone who could elevate the team’s ceiling with reliability off the bench.
