The legend’s grandson fought Sona Akale at the James L. Knight Center in Miami on June 29th. Despite appearing to have dislocated his shoulder in the fourth round, he was still able to hold on and win. Walsh’s recent Instagram read, “Just a quick update on everything: I’m recovering right now from my injury.”

He went on to explain the three things he learned during his recovery and wrote, “During this long process I’ve learned three things. 1) When it comes to success, every level has its own devil… 2) Greatness comes at a price that’s too expensive for most … and 3) Some consequences come with having balls of granite steel. The comeback will continue soon, I’ll be returning to the ring before the end of the year INSHALLAH.”

The young boxer’s dislocated shoulder is slowly recovering, and he can soon swing it for all the uppercuts and body shots he wants to land. Many feel that he has just become a boxer for fame, given his family’s golden legacy. However, he has a reply for everyone who thinks that he is in boxing for money.

Legacy above wealth and fame

Walsh fought Akale on the undercard of Teofimo Lopez vs. Steve Claggett. Not long after the bout, Walsh had an answer ready for Lopez regarding something the latter had said about him. He said, “He (Teofimo Lopez) disrespects my family saying I’m only in boxing because I’m desperate for money and fame. I just want everyone to know that I chose the path of boxing. I chose the path of legacy. If I wanted to, I could be a millionaire right now.”

Furthermore, the 24-year-old fighter revealed that he got an offer from MVP Promotions to square off against Jake Paul. But he declined it. “I’m not part of that circus league of boxing. This is the real league of boxing. This is what I’m going to do,’’ Walsh concluded.
