An NBA executive has said that Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are the best duo in the NBA and might be unstoppable in the playoffs.
An anonymous NBA executive has claimed that the Dallas Mavericks’ backcourt with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving is the best duo in the NBA.
“Luka and Kyrie are the best duo in the NBA. Their chemistry on the court is off the charts. They complement each other so well and they genuinely like each other.”
The executive also claims that the Mavericks might be unstoppable in the playoffs due to the offensive capabilities of Luka and Kyrie.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Dallas makes a serious run in the playoffs. I don’t see a defense stopping Luka and Kyrie in a seven-game series.”
The Mavericks are roaring right now, going 16-2 in their last 18 games with one of those losses coming without Doncic in the lineup. Their winter moves to acquire P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford have transformed them into a contender, as they’ve shot up from the Play-In Tournament to have a 95% of either finishing the season at the No. 4 or No. 5 seed.
Doncic is averaging 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists this season, making a late push to win the MVP award. Kyrie is averaging 25.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists, needing just a 0.4% improvement in field goal percentage to clinch the second 50-40-90 season of his career.
Former Mavericks’ Star Thinks Luka And Kyrie Need Another Elite Piece Next To Them
Fadeaway World spoke to Jamal Mashburn recently, and the former No. 4 overall pick selected by the Mavericks gave his take on the team’s chances of success. He refers to Doncic and Irving as a Hall of Fame backcourt partnership but believes the team is still one piece away from contention.
“I don’t think they’re quite a championship-caliber team. I think they have two Hall of Fame pieces in the backcourt and Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, who can definitely play. I think they’re one more piece away from actually being a contender and probably a little bit more concentration on the defensive end to make them a true contender.
Mashburn elaborated on the piece that they needed to add, using Khris Middleton as an example.
“They’re gonna have to add another piece. Doesn’t necessarily have to be an all-star caliber piece, but a wing player that can create, not create his own shot, but play off those guys… Somebody along the line of like a Khris Middleton for the Milwaukee Bucks, but probably a little bit better defender, but somebody of that ilk”
The Mavericks are looking extremely competitive with their new-look team as well. They beat the healthy Nuggets in an incredible clash last month, sealed by a Kyrie buzzer-beater.
Kyrie and Luka have also elevated the Mavericks into being the best clutch team in the NBA by far, adding another feather to their cap when they made a 22-point comeback to beat the Rockets in OT last night. They have a soft schedule left, but end their season with a clash against the OKC Thunder which will be their biggest test before the playoff to gauge how competitive they are.
