NFL іnѕіder belіeveѕ Detroіt Lіonѕ аre ѕet to mаke mаѕѕіve move іn neаr future

The Detroit Lions are coming off of their best season in three decades, so they should probably try and make sure they can sustain this success moving forward.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine thinks the Lions will take a major step toward achieving that this offseason, predicting that they will sign wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year, $115 million contract extension.

St. Brown became eligible for an extension this offseason, and because he was not selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, Detroit does not have a fifth-year option on him for 2025.

That means the Lions may need to get moving on St. Brown now if they want to ensure that he will be around for the long haul.

Last month, Diana Russini of The Athletic reported that Detroit was close to agreeing to a new deal with St. Brown worth in the neighborhood of $26-28 million annually, but there have been no updates since then.

Did the two sides stop negotiating? Or are they still crossing the T’s and dotting the I’s?

Whatever the case may be, it would certainly behoove the Lions to lock St. Brown up now before he is able to test free agency next offseason.

The 24-year-old is coming off of a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he played 16 games and hauled in 119 receptions for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.

St. Brown, who played his collegiate football at USC, was selected by Detroit in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed an impressive rookie season, registering 90 catches for 912 yards and five scores. He then broke out in 2022, catching 106 passes for 1,161 yards and six touchdowns, earning a trip to the Pro Bowl.

St. Brown then proceeded to establish himself as one of the game’s top wide outs this past year.
