The Green Bay Packers feel like they can compete for a championship in 2024. The way the team performed during the latter half of the 2023 season showed the league what this team is capable of. They spent the 2024 season addressing areas of weakness through free agency and the draft.
Injuries will, of course, play a role in their success (as it will with any team). One report recently revealed that the Packers avoided a major injury scare.
The Green Bay Packers Avoid Major Injury With Star Weapon
During an 11-on-11 period, Watson was involved in a scary collision when Jordan Love attempted to find him up the seam. Evan Williams made a play to break up the throw after it found Watson.
Watson was slow to get up after the collision. The good news is that he seems to be doing well. Following family night, Matt LaFleur spoke with reporters about the collision:
“He’s ok,” LaFleur revealed about Watson. “He went back in there in the two minute. Scary moment, certainly…Those are the ones you worry about, the bang-bang plays down the field. I told [Williams] to just try and lay off if you can.”
Here is a video of that play:
As a rookie in 2022, Watson took over the league from Weeks 10-13. During this period, he caught 15 passes for 362 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns on 24 targets. It is undeniable that he is a freak athlete with tons of league-winning potential, but he carried many questions into the 2023 season. In particular, there were questions about his ability to stay healthy and to keep up his production after the quarterback change.
Injuries caused Watson to miss five more games than last year. In addition, Watson’s yards per reception had a slight drop due to Aaron Rodgers’ absence from 50+ yard deep passes.
It will be interesting to see if Watson can get back to his dominant self in 2024. He could take this Packers’ offense to the next level.
