Packers Urged To Sign Former Aaron Rodgers Teammate

The Green Bay Packers are looking to improve the team in NFL free agency and one of Aaron Rodgers’s former teammates could be in play for Green Bay. The Packers need help on the offensive line, especially at tackle. It is one of their NFL Draft needs. Some of the other needs they have on the roster are at safety, cornerback, and at running back as well.

Sayre Bedinger of dairylandexpress.com thinks that the Packers should go after offensive tackle Mekhi Becton. He played for the Jets for the last few seasons. Bedinger wrote about why Green Bay should sign him by saying:

“For teams that have a proven method of developing young players at a position group, it’s hard to fathom not taking on some risk-reward options in NFL free agency. The Green Bay Packers have developed offensive linemen tremendously well under Adam Stenavich, the offensive coordinator/offensive line coach. We’ve seen them develop a number of late-round players into quality starters, so what if Stenavich could get his hands on a former first-round pick like Mekhi Becton? We know that the main reason things didn’t work out for Becton with the New York Jets was availability, but maybe he can have a string of good luck health-wise in Green Bay. You never know.”

Green Bay Packers Signing a Former Aaron Rodgers Teammate Would Be a Risky Move For the Franchise

Mehki Becton was a former first-round NFL Draft pick by the Jets. He has not stayed healthy throughout his career. The last thing the Packers need is to sign a player on the cheap that is injury-prone. They need a consistent left tackle to protect quarterback Jordan Love. Green Bay didn’t have that kind of luck last season because David Bakhtiari went down early in the year with a season-ending injury and the Packers want to avoid that in 2024.

Rasheed Walker is currently projected to be the starting left tackle for the Green Bay Packers this season. They will need to improve in that position, especially for depth reasons. It is an interesting thought to have Mehki Becton in that spot for this season and maybe for years to come if they want to pursue this move, but the Packers might be better off drafting someone rather than bringing in a former teammate of Aaron Rodgers.
