Packers’ WR garners high praise from HC Matt LaFleur

The Green Bay Packers made a massive commitment to Jordan Love as the franchise’s future, and head coach Matt LaFleur is optimistic about one of the young quarterback’s most important weapons in a young and exciting supporting cast.

Packers’ WR garners high praise from HC Matt LaFleur

LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst have built a dynamic collection of pass-catchers around Love. While that group battled through various injuries last season, Love still completed 64.2% of his passes for 4,159 yards with 32 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in his first season as the Packers’ starting quarterback.

With training camp in full swing, LaFleur suggests Romeo Doubs may be emerging as a true No. 1 receiver in Love’s arsenal.

“Where he started from to where he is now, I think it is night and day,” LaFleur told reporters of Doub’s offseason. “He’s a great route runner. He takes a lot of pride in his routes. He’s got very strong hands. He catches probably more balls than anybody in this building.”

While the Packers’ receiving corps has depth, Doubs has a chance to represent legitimate star power.

Romeo Doubs can be the Packers’ impact player

Wide receivers typically hit their stride in their third NFL season, which Doubs will embark on this fall, and is already building strong chemistry with Love.

Through his first two seasons, Doubs has caught 101 passes for 1,099 yards and 11 touchdowns, while appearing in just 30 games.

However, this camp may represent Doubs’ turning point.

“I always wanna go against Doubs,” Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander told reporters at his locker after a recent practice. “The dude is freaking really good. He came in his rookie year not catching a single pass on me, now we’re going up for 50-50 balls.

“He runs routes very well. His approach — he goes about it the right way. He comes in — I mean, he catches 100 balls and he catches more after practice. You can see he’s a real pro. You can see his attention to detail is very on point.”

As the Packers look for Love to make major strides in 2024, Doubs could wind up playing a starring role both in making them happen and Green Bay’s offense leveling up this season.
