Patrick Mahomes may not yet be considered the GOAT of the NFL, but he’s certainly on the list of the best quarterbacks in league history.
In seven seasons, the QB has already secured a pair of MVPs, four Super Bowl appearances, three Lombardi Trophies and three Super Bowl MVPs.
Looking ahead to the 2024 season, the signal-caller is ready to take the Kansas City Chiefs to the three-peat and fill another space on his shelf.
Above all, Mahomes is a fan of the game
Before entering the NFL, Mahomes followed games as a mere fan.
As he grew up, he admired the play style of several quarterbacks in the league – he seems to have never stopped admiring them.
And as a player, he tries to absorb some of the favourite aspects of his inspirations in order to apply them when he takes to the field.
On last Thursday’s edition of IMPAULSIVE podcast, Mahomes named four QBs he considers his greatest inspirations in American football.
“I looked at Tom [Brady] and his pocket movement, because even though he’s not the fastest guy, he moves around the pocket and gets himself in a place to throw,” he claimed.
“I watched Aaron [Rodgers] a lot and I watched Matthew Stafford a lot growing up. And I was a big Cowboys fan – sorry – as I grew up, so I watched Tony Romo a ton too. So those guys can move around, sling the football, but there’s a lot of great quarterbacks and I’m just trying to get on that list as well.”
Pat Mahomes’ style of play
The Chiefs legend drew on all his sporting references and created his own signature.
The arm strength of the four signal-callers mentioned and good mobility in the pocket make up just two of his many great qualities.
His intelligence and calmness when it comes to reading the game make him stand out and show how he differs from other QBs in the league. He may not be as fast, but he’s a good scrambler.
All these traits combined make Mahomes one of the most dangerous quarterbacks to beat.
