Patriots legend Julian Edelman reveals if Tom Brady asked him to sign with Buccaneers

When Julian Edelman was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2009, Tom Brady had already won three Super Bowl championships. So it was a little intimidating at first for the young receiver.

However, Edelman did everything he could to impress the quarterback. And throughout the year, the two built an unbreakable bond.

So after three Super bowl championships, Brady decided to leave the Patriots and join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As for Edelman, he ended up staying for one more season in New England before officially retiring.

When Brady left, he took tight end Rob Gronkowski with him. And many found it weird that he didn’t appear to make a play to get his favorite receiver to join him too.

But that actually wasn’t the case. And Edelman explained exactly how it all went down when appearing on The Rush Podcast with Maxx Crosby.

“I was pissed when he left a little bit, but he also, he would joke around about leaving with me for like four years. So this time I was just like, ‘oh it’s the boy crying wolf,’ Edelman said. “But he left!”

Brady did manage to let Edelman know first though. And he extended an offer that showed just how much power he had.

“He hit me up when he left. And he goes, ‘Hey babe, you want me to get you down here,’ Edelman recalled. “And I was like, ‘Nah, I’m good bro. I’m a one team man.”

That’s what every Patriots fan loves to hear.

Edelman spent all 11 years of his career in New England. And he is best remembered for an impressive catch during the Patriots historic comeback against the Atlanta Falcons, followed by being named Super Bowl MVP in 2019.

Despite Edelman not joining Brady in Tampa Bay, the two have remained close friends. And they will be reuniting at Fox next season when Brady embarks on the next chapter of his career: television.
