The Las Vegas Raiders made what should have been a franchise-altering move prior to the 2022 NFL Draft. As many fans may remember, they traded a first and second round pick to the Green Bay Packers for perennial Pro Bowl and All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams. The trade reunited Adams with Derek Carr, who had been his quarterback in college, and paired him with running back Josh Jacobs to form a lethal combination on offense.
Two years later, though, Adams is the only one of the three who remains on the roster. Carr was sent home before the 2022 season even ended, and Jacobs signed with the Packers in free agency this past offseason.
Las Vegas also has a new head coach in Antonio Pierce, who replaced the wildly unpopular Josh McDaniels. But while Adams had endorsed Pierce to become the full-time head coach, there were still rumors circulating that the three-time All-Pro was unhappy and wanted out.
Many Believed Las Vegas Raiders Wide Receiver Davante Adams Want to Be Traded to Reunite with Aaron Rodgers on the New York Jets
Ever since the Packers traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets prior to the 2023 NFL Draft, many wondered if it was a matter of when, no if, Adams would join him.
Those rumors picked up steam over the course of this offseason, especially with the footage `from the Netflix series “Receiver” being aired this summer.
In one of the episodes of that series, Adams was recorded telling a teammate that he feared for his life and that he had to “get out of here.” It was also revealed during the series that Adams signed off on the benching of former Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
The rumors picked up steam when Rodgers told reporters that he couldn’t wait to play with Adams again. The comments were rather tongue and cheek, though. The Jets quarterback recently called the Adams trade rumors “silly” and that the next time they played football together might be in the 2028 Olympics.
Las Vegas Raiders Wide Receiver Davante Adams Has a Great Relationship with Both Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell
One of the biggest questions facing the Raiders heading into the 2024 NFL season is who their starting quarterback will be. They currently have Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew competing for the job.
The good news for the Raiders is that Adams has a great relationship with both of them, as he recently told ESPN:
“We have really open conversations, and we all get reps with all the quarterbacks … and I’m definitely watching at all times, seeing everything and learning how the ball comes out with Gardner versus Aidan.
“That’s kind of how [Rodgers] and I used to work. It wasn’t just about the reps that we had in practice, but it was about the communication, the film that we watched together, and just going off of time and the different things like that that were equally as important as getting those [reps] on the field.”
As one can see, Adams is building a relationship with both quarterbacks based on how he used to work with Rodgers in Green Bay.
No matter which one of them wins the job, Adams will be happy.
The trade rumors can stop.
