All good things come to an end, or so I’m told, so it wasn’t particularly surprising when the Giants, in their bullpen game, scored the first runs on a Wednesday against the Sox in three weeks on a third-inning home run against Co-Cy Young favorite (alongside Tanner Houck) by something named Tom Murphy:

“Tom Murphy.” Sure. Likely story, pal. 1-0 nonetheless, scoreless streak over, but I know a ruse when I hear one.
Good thing was the Sox responded in kind, and moreso. In perfect fashion, Ceddanne Rafaela reached on an infield single, Jarren Duran walked and then Rafael Devers used the Green Monster like a nice boy:

That evened the game. Rob Refsynder then grounded out to shortstop, scoring to Duran, to uneven it and make it 2-1 Sox heading to the fourth (inning).
Long story, Mike Yasztremski, yeah, brought home a run on a bunt single to even it at 2-2 in the top of the fourth. Bittersweet, yes, but only for so long. In the bottom of the fourth the Sox struck again, with a Connor Wong walk setting up an Emmanuel Valdez RBI double and, subsequently, a Jarren Duran RBI triple:
Blah blah blah in the bottom of the fifth, certified new guy Dominic Smith made it 5-2 like the gentleman he must be.
Through all this, Crawford cruised. The sixth? No runs. The seventh? He wouldn’t have dared. But Wong was bold enough to bolster his MVP case with a no-doubt RBI double in the bottom of the frame:
Chris Martin retired the side in the eighth, the Giants returned the favor, and Gregg Weissert came on for the ninth and… gave up a Matt Chapman single to open the inning but got out of it on a double play. Hoo-rah!
