Red Sox Get Positive Vaughn Grissom Injury Update

The Boston Red Sox opened the 2024 season without second baseman Vaughn Grissom and outfielder Rob Refsnyder, who were both placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain and a left toe fracture retroactive to Mar. 25.

Red Sox Get Positive Vaughn Grissom Injury Update

The Red Sox have high expectations for the 23-year-old Grissom, who they acquired in the offseason from the Atlanta Braves for Chris Sale. Meanwhile, Refsnyder is one of their best right-handed bats off the bench.

With the season underway, Boston hopes to have both players back on the field soon. Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters on Monday that he’s hopeful Grissom and Refsnyder will be ready to play minor league games after coming up to Boston for the home opener, according to Christoper Smith of MassLive.com

A few weeks ago in Spring Training, Cora said Grissom could return to the field by mid-to-late April as he continues to rehab his hamstring injury. The 23-year-old infielder couldn’t participate in Spring Training so his rehab assignment in the minors will be important as Boston hopes he’s part of their future.

Meanwhile, Refsnyder was having a great Spring Training in Fort Myers, FL, before suffering a fractured left pinkie toe. The 33-year-old outfielder slashed .300/.400/.450 with a home run and seven RBI across nine games. Last season with the Red Sox, Refsnyder hit .248 with a home run and 28 RBI.
