Russell Wilson Is Still Limited, Working His Way Back Gradually

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson was a limited participant at Friday night’s practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium. The 35-year-old veteran quarterback continues to work his way back gradually from a calf injury, which was suffered during the team’s conditioning test when he was pushing a sled. Wilson has not been a full participant in any of the Steelers’ eight training camp practices.

Justin Fields has received first-team reps instead, and he had a banner night on Friday. The offense went 7-0 during seven shots. Fields was very efficient and in command of the offense.

Wilson (calf) is still not sprinting like the rest of the QBs during warmups, which has been the case throughout the week. Wilson is only doing straight dropbacks during individual drills, instead of also doing rollouts like the other QBs.

Russell Wilson again threw WR vs DB 1 vs 1s. Every WR seemed to want to go deep when Wilson was throwing. Van Jefferson hauled in a long one over Anthony Averett. Calvin Austin III had one and dropped it. George Pickens broke two off shorter passes for easy wins against Joey Porter Jr.

Wilson also got in work in 7-on-7. He only did handoffs during the 11-on-11 team period. The script was pretty much the same as Thursday.

Steelers offensive tackle Broderick Jones has a big elbow brace on. His reps have been limited since he got banged up earlier this week. Jones participated in some of the team period.

Tight end Rodney Williams II (AC sprain) was not active during 11-on-11, just individuals.

Rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson (left ankle) was wearing a boot on the sideline. He is expected to miss multiple weeks.
