“Steph Curry: 1-9, 0-6 from three, can’t guard anybody. LeBron: SIX MORE TURNOVERS. And this team could beat Michael Jordan’s Dream Team?” added Bayless.
2024 squad vs. Dream Team
Skip’s co-host, Paul Pierce, is one of the NBA personalities who have gone on record saying that the 2024 U.S. Team would beat the Dream Team. Paul contends that the Dream Team featured two players—Magic Johnson and Larry Bird—already past their primes during the 1992 Olympics. Paul also talked about the current U.S. squad’s three-point shooting ability.
“Larry Bird couldn’t play no more; he was done,” said Pierce. “Magic was done pretty much. Who was their best player?” Pierce asked. “This team this year would dominate that team. Who’s gonna guard LeBron? First of all style of play would’ve been too much for the Dream Team. They couldn’t shoot the three. Who did they have down low? They had David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, and Charles Barkley. We can counter that with Embiid, AD, and Bam. Who’s gonna guard Kevin Durant? Who’s gonna guard Steph Curry?”
The Truth has a valid point. Still, to Skip’s assessment, Steph would struggle defensively in this hypothetical matchup. The 2024 Team might have the edge in three-point shooting, but what if Curry, LeBron, and the other starters open the game misfiring from deep like they did against South Sudan? And what about the turnovers? Would the Dream Team race to an early lead and never look back?
Well, this debate will continue as the Olympic tournament progresses, and we’ll see how it ends.
