Early on, a clip surfaced of Harrison teaching Herbig some of his secret moves. After Thursday’s walkthrough practice, Herbig spoke to the media, sharing what it was like to be coached by Harrison.
“He’s a great guy, great football player,” Herbig said. “Just him taking the time out of his day to show me some stuff after practice. It was only like 10 minutes, but I learned so much in that 10 minutes from a legend.”
Harrison was feared throughout his remarkable NFL career. Despite his legendary status, he started as an under-the-radar player. Harrison went undrafted in the 2002 NFL Draft, with teams doubting his size—too short for linebacker and too small for the defensive line. It’s almost humorous in hindsight, given that Harrison is now famous for his incredible strength and intense workouts.
Although Herbig was drafted and isn’t in the same situation Harrison once faced, there’s a connection. Harrison relates to Herbig and wants to see the Steelers’ players succeed. After practice, Harrison took the time to teach Herbig some of his signature moves, offering coaching that Herbig considers invaluable. Herbig feels that those 10 minutes of learning from Harrison provided him with a wealth of knowledge.
The Steelers have a storied history and are known for maintaining strong connections with their former players. Harrison has been a regular presence around the facilities and practices for several seasons now, and it’s clear he’s both welcomed and eager to help the team improve.

One of the standout moments of his rookie season was a strip-sack fumble on Geno Smith during a crucial win against the Seattle Seahawks on the road. As he gears up for the upcoming season, Herbig will look to apply some of the techniques and insights he’s gained from Harrison.
