Team USA guard Jrue Holiday was not able to see action during Saturday’s game against Puerto Rico in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Boston Celtics star two-way weapon due to an ankle issue that he sustained during the win over South Sudan.
The Americans will not see action until Tuesday for an all-important matchup against Brazil in the quarterfinals. With some time to rest up his hurting ankle, Holiday is expected to see action in the Brazil game, according to Team USA head coach Steve Kerr (h/t Marc J. Spears of ESPN).
USA coach Steve Kerr says Jrue Holiday (ankle) will play Tuesday vs Brazil.
Holiday’s injury doesn’t seem to be serious and he would have likely played if it was a playoff game in the NBA.
The United States did not miss Holiday very much in the clash against Puerto Rico, as they were led by Anthony Edwards, who exploded for 26 points on 11/15 shooting from the floor.
In the event that Holiday gets ruled out for the Brazil game, Team USA still have the likes of Stephen Curry, Derrick White, Tyrese Haliburton,
Devin Booker, and Edwards to take care of business in the backcourt. In other words, the United States can afford to give Holiday more rest if they want to. It must be noted, though, that the tourney is now in the knockout stages.
So far in the tournament in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Holiday is averaging 10.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, while connecting on 61.5 percent of his field goal attempts.
