Willie Snead has now bounced between six different teams throughout his decade-long NFL career.
The Miami Dolphins added wide receivers in the draft and through free agency this offseason but felt reinforcements were needed after one week of training camp. Miami announced the addition of wide receiver Willie Snead IV on Thursday, waiving defensive tackle Mario Kendricks to make room on the 90-man roster.
Snead, 31, kickstarted his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He bounced between the Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, and Las Vegas Raiders before spending the last two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
Entering his tenth NFL season, Snead played 133 offensive snaps since the start of 2021, according to PFF. He appeared in four games last year, catching two of three targets for 14 yards. Snead’s caught 281 passes for 3,445 yards and 16 touchdowns throughout his career but hasn’t found the end zone since 2020.
The Dolphins could use depth at receiver considering seventh-round rookie Tahj Washington was placed on injured reserve and Odell Beckham Jr. began camp on the physically unable to perform list with an undisclosed injury.
Miami didn’t practice Wednesday but returns to the field Thursday — eight days before their preseason opener at home against the Atlanta Falcons. All eyes will be on the receiving group, particularly who will step up behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
