Will Mike Williams redeem his NFL career with the New York Jets?

New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams only played three games with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023. Still, the Jets believe that Williams has an upside that may help them propel to the top of the AFC this NFL season.

What started as a highlight career has slowly turned into a pattern of injury and absence for Williams. A torn ACL last year was just another shortcoming for Williams and has led to a slow road to recovery.

Williams is currently listed as No. 1 on the Jets’ depth chart according to ESPN, but wide receiver Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard may slide up if he isn’t available for Week 1.

Williams has the height, hands, and a proven ability to dominate on intermediate and deep routes. Even in just 13 games played in 2022, Williams still averaged 14.2 yards per reception with 63 catches on 93 targets.

Jets’ fans should be optimistic about Williams because it’s likely that offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett will deploy a more balanced attack on offense than the Los Angeles Chargers did with former coach Brandon Staley.

With Williams being used more moderately, the probability of his health sustaining through 2024 may increase. Time will tell however.
