Andrew Booth Jr. has had a rough go of things in his tenure with the Minnesota Vikings, now the writing is seemingly on the wall for him. A decision will loom on his roster spot as the preseason and training camp rolls on.
All signs point to a departure rather than one last season to prove something.
During his stock watch report for The Athletic, Alec Lewis didn’t have the best news for those who may be hoping Andrew Booth Jr. will bring life to the team’s cornerback situation.
“Booth is healthy but he has rarely played. Duke Shelley, Ward and McGlothern have taken most of the snaps with the No. 2 defense. A.J. Green III and 2023 undrafted cornerback Jaylin Williams have earned as many — if not more — reps than Booth.”
Lewis hints that 2024 UDFA Dwight McGlothern is also shining in the chances he has been given. All of the other cornerbacks are stepping up in Mekhi Blackmon’s absence, and Booth Jr.’s being on the sideline doesn’t help matters.
For General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, Andrew Booth Jr. will be seen as one of the rather bigger misses of his Vikings tenure. How long will it be before he inevitably moves on? Hard to tell, perhaps after the first preseason game or soon there after.
The talent will earn Booth Jr. another chance, but for his time with Minnesota, both parties need a fresh start.
