The Yankees were always going to make a roster move between games of Saturday’s doubleheader. Right-hander Cody Poteet needed to be added to the active roster as the club’s 27th man for the nightcap.
That move turned out to be one of five different transactions that manager Aaron Boone revealed during his postgame presser after a 3-2 win over Cleveland at Progressive Field.

An official announcement from the Yankees a little while later included two additional roster notes.
The most notable and impactful move from Saturday afternoon came on the left side of the infield.
Yankees infielder Jon Berti was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain. It’s retroactive to April 11, the day after Berti sustained his injury while running out a ground ball against the Marlins.
“I don’t think it’s overly severe,” Boone said, “but I don’t have a timeline.”
RESTORING THE GLORY
Berti was acquired by the Yankees from the Marlins right before Opening Day, part of the three-team deal that also sent catcher Ben Rortvedt to the Rays. He had been playing sporadically at third base — starting all three games against Miami this past week with three left-handed starting pitchers on the mound — hitting .211 (4-for-19) to begin his Yankees career.
Taking Berti’s place on the active roster is versatile infielder Kevin Smith, a non-roster invitee this spring that started the season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Every other move involves relievers.
The Yankees designated lefty Josh Maciejewski for assignment, opening up a spot on the active roster for familiar face Ron Marinaccio. Marinaccio started the year in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after a sophomore regression in 2023.
Left-hander Clayton Andrews, who the Yankees designated for assignment earlier this month, passed through waivers. The Yankees outrighted him off their big-league roster and sent him to Triple-A.
Finally, right-hander McKinley Moore was reinstated from the Yankees’ 15-day injured list and optioned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Moore sat out for much of spring training, never appearing in a Grapefruit League game due to a knee injury. The Yankees claimed him off waivers this past February.
